Nd Yag Laser Hair Removal Glasgow
This laser is the only choice: Nd-Yag
Laser hair removal has been around since 1997, when it was discovered that patients undergoing laser treatment for tattoos, port wine stains, pigmented lesions etc, had stunted or no hair growth in the treated area.
Ruby lasers (694nm) were the first laser to be used for serious commercial hair removal. Unfortunately this device has some major drawbacks in that it can only really be used on skin type I-II (on the Fitzpatrick scale) due to high melanin absorption
Since those early days there has been all kinds of light based devices put on the market that claim to give permanent hair reduction, from different types of laser to IPL’s.
However we believe that over 10 years later it is generally accepted around the world that there are two systems that can offer consistent results for hair removal and they are long pulsed Alexandrite (755nm) and long pulsed Nd:Yag (1064nm) lasers.
Alexandrite lasers (755nm) are mainly used for hair removal on skin types I-III, there can be a significant risk of either hyper pigmentation or the more serious hypo pigmentation if an Alexandrite is used on skin type higher than III.
Nd:Yag lasers (1064nm) can be a far more versatile tool as they can be used for hair removal on all skin types I-VI, as well as the treatment of unwanted red and blue veins on both the leg and face.
Polaris Medical Grade NdYag 1064 Laser
The POLARIS 1064 Long Pulsed Nd:YAG LASER which can be safely and successfully used for the removal of hair on all skin types, Fitzpatrick scale I-VI, is the ideal solution for all skin types.
- Effective with low melanin absorption so safer on darker toned skins
- Reliable results
- Cost effective treatment rates
- Excellent cooling system
One of the many advantages of using Laser light at 1064nm is that melanin absorption is very low. As a result the risk of skin pigmentation damage, either hyper or hypo, is very low, making long pulsed Nd:Yag lasers the only choice for hair removal on skin types III-VI.
Unwanted hair can be a thing of the past using the Polaris long pulsed Nd:Yag Laser. Permanent hair reduction can be successfully achieved for both men and women. All areas of the body can be safely treated, using the ergonomic and easy to use hand piece. All treatments are carried out using the Polaris BrrEase cold air skin cooling device making the the client experience as comfortable as possible.
Unwanted hair growth is a common aesthetic problem. Laser hair removal has emerged as a leading treatment option for long-term depilation.
To extensively review the literature on laser hair removal pertaining to its theoretical basis, current laser and light-based devices, and their complications. Special treatment recommendations for darker skin types were considered.
Materials and Methods
A comprehensive literature search related to the long-pulse alexandrite (755 nm), long-pulse diode (810 nm), long-pulse neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG; 1,064 nm), and intense pulsed light (IPL) system, as well as newer home-use devices, was conducted.
The literature supports the use of the alexandrite, diode, Nd:YAG and IPL devices for long-term hair removal. Because of its longer wavelength, the Nd:YAG is the best laser system to use for pigmented skin. Further research is needed regarding the safety and efficacy of home-use devices.
Current in-office laser hair removal devices effectively provide a durable solution for unwanted hair removal.
How’s this for a mouthful!:
Now you know why we say Nd-Yag 🙂

Dr V trusts NdYag - Dr Vanita Rattan
One of my top, top favourites on skin of colour Aesthetics is the amazing Dr V. If you don’t currently follow on social or youtube i’d highly recommend a follow. In this video Dr V beautifully outline what you should be asking prior to treatment, laser hair removal pre-treatment and anticipated results post-laser hair removal treatment.
Her go to is the NdYag, although as it’s a US site she opts for the Soprano for it’s cooling effects. We agree that cooling and the long wave length medical grade Polaris system we use here is the only real option for skin of colour.
The brrrease cooling system ice air jet provides the ultimate cooling option and the fixed pulse duration is maintained to deliver optimal energy for sfae, effective laser hair removal in Glasgow.
Currently there are many around the UK offering NdYag by Polaris Medical, with 30 years experience they’re the only one we’d choose. In Scotland there are only 3 active Polaris clinics, one East coast, one in Borders (which we can recommend as we trained the therapists there so can personally vouch for) and of course Metro Laser Clinic. The only downside about Polaris is their website for some reason after 6 years and 1.5 million laser bursts – still doesn’t list us hahaha. Because results are important – this system is the one we choose all those years ago after 6 months research.
